CERVICAL SCREENING DURING COVID-19

Over recent days there has been quite a lot of coverage in the national news about how much routine clinical treatments have been affected during the pandemic. You’ll be pleased to hear that if you have had a cervical (smear) screening test cancelled or put on hold due to COVID -19 that services are resuming soon. We are working through a backlog and your GP practice will be contacting you soon.

We know that cervical screening isn’t always easy but it’s important you attend your new appointment, but it may be a bit different, this is to protect everyone and carry out your test safely. Differences may include:

• Your nurse may be wearing protective wear and face mask
• You may be asked to attend another local practice
• You may be asked more questions before you attend your appointment
• You may not be able to wait in the practice waiting room

If you still have your invite letter you can book your own appointment!

From Saturday 13th June smear appointments will be held at Ashton Medical Centre on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:20 for anyone who is registered at a Wigan Borough GP practice. Please call 01942482848.

We realise that many people have concerns at this time, but your practice is doing everything they can to keep you and the practice staff safe.
